The #10 Meridian Community College Eagles went on the road Monday and picked up a victory in extra innings over Holmes Community College. The Eagles won the game 10-8.
The Holmes Bulldogs got the scoring started in the bottom of the second courtesy of a solo homer to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles responded by taking the lead in the top of the third. Banks Tolley got the inning started with a lead off single and came around to score on a passed ball. Mack Pickering came up to bat and ripped a double to center and came around to score on a single from Hootie Parker to put the Eagles up 2-1.
The Bulldogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead. Donovan Shows got things started, for the Eagles, in the fourth with a single. He came around to score on a fielder’s choice. Markarius Lee followed with an RBI single to make it 5-4.
The Eagles would retake the lead in the top of the fifth. Kace Garner blasted a two-run homer to left to put the Eagles up 6-5. The Bulldogs responded with three runs to take the 8-6 lead.
Down to their final at bat trailing 8-6 the Eagles battled back. Garner walked to lead off the seventh. Shows came to the plate and sent a homer over the fence in right to tie the game at 8-8. The Eagles held the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the game to extra innings.
Lee was hit by a pitch to give the Eagles a runner in the eighth. Lee stole second and came home on an RBI double from Parker to give the Eagles a 9-8 lead. Garner followed with a single to score Parker to make it 10-8. Eagles reliever Max Sharp closed things out in the bottom of the eighth to finish out the win.
Sharp led the Eagles to victory on the pitcher's mound. He surrendered zero runs on one hit over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 23-11 overall and 12-8 in MACJC play. The Eagles will be back in action Wednesday, April 24 against East Mississippi Community College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4:00.
