The #14 Meridian Community College Eagles went on the road Saturday for a doubleheader against #7 Jones College. The Eagles picked up a split falling in game one 5-4 and winning game two 4-1.
The Eagles fell in a heartbreaker in game one. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first the Eagles held the lead heading into the fifth. Jones would tie the game in the fifth and the game would remain tied until the eighth.
The Bobcats picked up a run to take the lead in the bottom of the eighth. Heading into the 9th trailing 4-3 the Eagles Keegan Westbrook led off by getting hit by a pitch, Jean Torres followed with a base hit to give the Eagles runners on first and second. The Eagles would tie it 4-4 on a fielders choice. The Bobcats would bring a run across the plate in the bottom of the ninth to take the 5-4 win.
The Eagles took advantage of a wonderful pitching performance from David Dunn and Braden Forsyth to pick up a 4-1 win in the nightcap.
David Dunn earned the win for the Eagles. He lasted four innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out one and walking zero. Braden Forsyth threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first taking advantage of a Bobcat error to bring in a run. The Bobcats would tie the game at 1-1 in the second.
The Eagles would take the lead for good with a pair of runs in the fourth. Westbrook got the inning started with a single and came around to score on a single from Banks Tolley. Tolley came in to score on a wild pitch giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead.
The Eagles would add another run in the fifth when Westbrook drove in Mack Pickering to stretch the lead to 4-1. The Eagles held the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the way to pick up the 4-1 win.
With the split, the Eagles improve to 25-13 overall and 14-10 in MACJC play. The Eagles return to action Tuesday, April 30 against East Central Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00.
