The #4 Meridian Community College Golf team started spring play with a successful tournament. The Eagles hosted a five-team tournament at Briarwood Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday. Mitchell Fifer won low medalist for the tournament and the Eagles finished second overall.
Fifer shot a tournament-best four under par 140 (68,72). Fifer won by one stroke over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College golfer Jon Hopkins. MCC Golfer Presley Wade finished 4th overall shooting three over par 147 (77,70), coming in fifth place was Logan Meadows who shot five-over par 149 (75,74). Fifer, Wade, and Meadows made the All-Tournament Team.
Eagle golfer Will Kidder finished 12th overall shooting 9 over par 153 (77,76), Dalton Baskin finished tied for 13th after shooting 10 over par 154 (76,78), Kade Pitts finished tied for 18th shooting 13 over par 157 (79,78), and Parker Brooks finished tied for 23rd shooting 18 over par 162 (82,80).
The Eagles finished the tournament 20 over par 596. The Eagles shot 296 during the first round and 300 during the second round. The Eagles finished second to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Copiah-Lincoln finished 3rd, Itawamba finished 4th, and Hinds came in 5th in the team standings.
The Eagles return to the course Monday, March 25 in Foley, Alabama. The Eagles are currently ranked 4th in the nation on Golfstat and in the coaches poll.
