Wilson Named Head Coach Of MCC Men's Soccer

Meridian Community College Men’s Soccer team has a new Head Coach for the 2019 season. Sam Wilson takes over the duties from Mike Smith for the upcoming season. Smith will take on the assistant role with the men while maintaining the Head Coach role for the MCC Lady Eagles.

Wilson has been an assistant with the MCC soccer teams for the last two seasons. Prior to his time at MCC he was the head coach at Newton County High School for five seasons. During his tenure at Newton County, the Cougar men qualified for the playoffs four times including an appearance in the South State Championship.

“I just want to thank my wife and family, Mike Smith, and the MCC Administration for this opportunity. I’m very excited to take over such a history-rich program. My number one goal is to help build these young men into better leaders, husbands, and fathers.” Said MCC Head Coach Wilson.

"I'm excited to have Coach Wilson take the helm of our men's soccer program.  His knowledge and passion for soccer coupled with his desire to help student-athletes reach their academic and athletic goals are just what the program needs.  I look forward to watching his teams compete for years to come." Said MCC Athletic Director Sander Atkinson.

The Eagles will look to continue the growth from the 2018 season.  The Eagles get the season started with an exhibition contest against Hinds Community College on Friday, August 9 at 8:00.
