The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles softball team got their season started on a high note with a season-opening win Friday afternoon. The Lady Eagles traveled to Dothan, Alabama to compete in the Dothan Invitational. The Lady Eagles got the win over Fayetteville Technical Community College 11-3 in five innings.
The Lady Eagles fell behind in the first inning 3-0. From that point on it was all Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles responded in the bottom of the first with five runs highlighted by a three-run homer coming off the bat of Alyssa Branyan. The Lady Eagles added a run in the third inning and then added five in the bottom of the fourth.
Hayleigh Rogers got the win for the Lady Eagles. She lasted five innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out three and walking one.
The Lady Eagles dropped the nightcap of their doubleheader Friday night. The Lady Eagles lost to Tallahassee Community College 14-1.
Tallahassee got off to a quick start with three runs in the second and continued to build their lead throughout the game. They exploded for seven runs in the 7th inning to put the game out of reach.
The Lady Eagles returned to the field Saturday for another doubleheader in the Dothan Invitational Tournament. The Lady Eagles fell to Gulf Coast State College in game one and fell to Georgia Military College in game two.
The Lady Eagles got on the board in the first inning against Gulf Coast. Aahliya Jones drove in a run with a single.
With the game tied at one in the fifth inning, Gulf Coast scored four runs to pull ahead 5-1 and scored one more in the seventh to get the 6-1 win.
Hayleigh Rogers took the loss for the Lady Eagles. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on nine hits and walking one.
The Lady Eagles dropped game two to Georgia Military College 5-0.
The Lady Eagles were unable to get the bats going against Georgia Military. Jaelynn Palmer paced the Lady Eagles with a pair of hits. Valirea Sentelle and Megan Lightcap also added a hit.
Kaitlyn Parrish took the loss on the mound. She pitched six and one-third innings and allowed three earned runs. Parrish had three strikeouts.
With the two losses, Saturday the Lady Eagles fall to 1-3 on the season. They will return to action Tuesday, February 12 against Bevill State Community College. The Lady Eagles will play a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
