The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles softball team returned to action Saturday against Bevill State Community College. The Lady Eagles continued their winning ways picking up a pair of victories. The Lady Eagles won game one 7-5 and game two 9-8.
The Lady Eagles fell behind early in game one. The Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Lady Eagles could muster anything at the plate. The Lady Eagles cut into the deficit in the third inning. Miracle Crosby got things started with a leadoff walk. She stole second and would later score on a throwing error. Taylor Perilloux reaches on the throwing error and would score on an Alyssa Branyan single to bring the score to 4-2.
The Lady Eagles would tie the game in the fifth inning. Perilloux got things started with a single and then stole second to get into scoring position. Keirra Fair would drive her in with a single to bring the score to 4-3. Fair would come around to score on a Branyan single to knot it up at 4 heading into the sixth inning.
The Lady Eagles took the lead for good in the sixth. The Bears walked the bases loaded. Macey Blancett then walked to bring in the go-ahead run. Fair followed with a two-run single to put the Lady Eagles up 7-4. The Bears would score one in the seventh but the Lady Eagles closed things out to pick up the 7-5 victory.
Kaitlyn Parrish picked up the victory for the Lady Eagles She lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out five. Megan Lightcap started the game for the Lady Eagles. She surrendered four runs on three hits over two and a third innings, striking out one and walking one.
The Lady Eagles fell behind in game two but a seven-run fourth inning pushed them to victory.
The Lady Eagles trailed 6-2 heading into the fourth. Aaliya Jones got things started with a single. Lightcap followed with a rbi double to make it 6-3. Lightcap came around to score on a throwing error bringing the score to 6-4. Fair followed up with a two-run double to tie the game at 6. The Lady Eagles would take the lead for good on a Jackie Lahaie triple to bring the score to 7-6. Branyan brought the scoring to a close with a two-run homer to give the Eagles the 9-6 advantage.
The Bears scored two runs over the next two innings to bring the score to 9-8 heading into the seventh. The Bears were able to get a runner to third but the Lady Eagles closed things out to hold on for the win.
With the wins, the Lady Eagles improve to 9-5 on the season. The Lady Eagles will be back in action Wednesday, March 20 at Hinds Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00.
