The Lady Eagles of Meridian Community College returned to their winning ways Saturday with a pair of wins. The Lady Eagles traveled to Goodman and swept the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes. The Lady Eagles won game one 15-7 and won game two 2-1.
A big game from Kelsey Patterson helped lead the Lady Eagles to the eight-run win in game one. Patterson had four hits including homers in the fifth and sixth inning that helped put the game away.
The Lady Eagles held a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth before exploding for twelve runs over the final three innings. The fifth inning was highlighted by back to back homers from Jada Henderson and Aahliya Jones.
The Lady Eagles racked up 17 hits in game one. Patterson, Jones, Henderson, and Keirra Fair each had multiple hits.
Kaitlyn Parrish picked up the win for the Lady Eagles. She pitched seven innings, allowing 12 hits and seven runs while striking out one and walking zero.
Game Two was a low-scoring affair as the Lady Eagles picked up the one-run win.
Heading into the sixth inning with the score tied 0-0 the Lady Eagles needed a big hit. Alyssa Branyan provided that with a solo homer to give the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs tied it in the bottom of the sixth.
Heading the seventh tied 1-1 the Lady Eagles sent pinch hitter Masey Blancett to the plate with a chance to put the Lady Eagles back in front. Blancett singled to left to score Tykira Bouldin. This gave the Lady Eagles the 2-1 lead and they would hold on to pick up the win.
Hayleigh Rogers led the Lady Eagles to victory on the mound. She went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and walking zero.
With the sweep the Lady Eagles improve to 14-12 overall and 7-7 in MACJC play. The Lady Eagles return home to Tommy McDonald Field for a doubleheader against Copiah-Lincoln Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 Tuesday, April 9.
