Meridian Community College Track and Field athlete Marquania Rowell has been chosen as the NJCAA Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Rowell won the High Jump Event at the MCC Relay Invitational last week.
Rowell, a sophomore from Opelika, AL, posted a 1.73-meter jump last week for the Eagles. This ranked her third in the country at the NJCAA level. This also set a new MCC school record.
“It’s a great honor for Marquania and it was a great performance she had at our home meet. We went through the progression of heights in the competition that will be similar to nationals and she executed it perfectly and broke the school record in the process.” Said MCC Track and Field Head Coach Chip Gayden.
Rowell and the Eagles travel to Hobbs, NM this week for the NJCAA Track and Field National Championships. The event begins Thursday, May 16 and will conclude Saturday, May 18. Follow us on Twitter @MCCEagleSports for updates from the event.
