Eagles Prepared To Start New Season Under New Leadership

The Meridian Community College Eagles soccer team heads into the 2019 season with a new coach and a new attitude. Sam Wilson moves into the Head Coach role this season and looks to lead the Eagles to a successful season.

The Eagles have nineteen freshmen on this year’s roster along with eight returning sophomores.  The Eagles return four starters from the 2018 team. “Our newcomers will need to step up and contribute for us this season.” Said MCC Head Coach Sam Wilson.

The Eagles closed out exhibition play with a 2-0 win over East Central and are looking to ride that momentum into the regular season.

Kevin Madrid and Tarek Shafei are among the newcomers expected to contribute this season for the Eagles. Baylor Little and Hayden Brett are among the returners who will be relied upon this season.

The Eagles will have a freshman at the goalkeeper position this season. Francisco Zuniga will see time at the position for the Eagles. Zuniga did an excellent job for the Eagles in their shutout exhibition win.

“We believe that we have a chance to make the playoffs this season. That is what we are working toward and we are really striving to play to our full potential”. Said Wilson

The Eagles will begin MACJC play Friday, August 30 at Pearl River Community College. Eagles fans will have plenty of opportunities to watch the Eagles as they will host seven home games this season. All of those games will also be available to watch at mcceagleslive.com.
