MCC Lady Eagles are headed to Clinton
Only four remain in Region 23
MERIDIAN- The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles basketball team is headed to the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals at Mississippi College for the first time since 2014.
The Lady Eagles are having their best season in over a decade, with a 24-3 overall record. They finished 12-2 in MACCC play this year, which was good enough for the #3 seed in the NJCAA Region 23 tournament and earned them a bye into the quarterfinal round.
Wednesday night in the Graham Gymnasium before an enthusiastic crowd, the Lady Eagles ran away from the Holmes Lady Bulldogs 84-50, securing them a spot at Mississippi College for the semifinals. MCC had five players score double digits in the 34-point victory. Shakira Wilson led the way with 25 points, including four 3-pointers. Lizzie Walker and Amberly Brown both had double-doubles. Walker had 13 points, and 10 rebounds, and Brown had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Elissa Murry and Amari Davis both had 10 points.
The Lady Eagles will face the #2 seed Pearl River Lady Wildcats Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Mississippi College. These two teams already met once this season, and the Lady Wildcats pulled out the home win 66-58. MCC has not lost a game since that night, winning 11 straight games.
Spectators can purchase tickets for the tournament at Mississippi College at the door for $8.00. All MCC games will be live-streamed at mcceagles.live/white-channel.
