Head Coach Sam Wilson Steps Down
After a six-year tenure at Meridian Community College (MCC), Head Men's Soccer Coach Sam Wilson has announced his decision to resign from his current position. Throughout his time at MCC, Coach Wilson has led the team's growth and development. His coaching expertise and passion for the sport have been instrumental in shaping the character and skills of the student-athletes. Coach Wilson's record as head coach at MCC stands at 25 wins, 32 losses, and 5 draws.
Coach Wilson said, "I can't thank MCC enough for my time here. I have had so much pride in being par of my hometown's soccer program and getting able to serve the community I grew up in."
"We appreciate Coach Wilson's contributions to our men's soccer program and wish nothing but the best in his future endeavors," said MCC's Athletic Director, Sander Atkinson.
As the college bids farewell to Coach Wilson, it is with great pleasure that Meridian Community College announces the appointment of Head Women's Soccer Coach Mike Smith Jr., who will take over the coaching duties for the men's team this season. Coach Smith's coaching career at MCC spans an impressive 16 years, demonstrating his unparalleled dedication and expertise in guiding student-athletes to success both on and off the field.
Coach Smith's career at MCC began as the men's and women's assistant under the guidance of Head Coach Alex George in 2007. In 2012, Coach Smith assumed the head coach position for the women's soccer team, where he successfully guided the team to several notable accomplishments. In 2016, his dedication and achievements led him to become the head coach for both the men's and women's soccer teams.
"I am confident that Coach Smith's understanding of the game, strategic approach, and leadership will continue to build a culture of excellence among our student-athletes," added Athletic Director Sander Atkinson.
As the transition of coaching responsibilities occurs, Meridian Community College extends its sincerest gratitude to Coach Wilson for his contributions to the men's soccer program. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors. The college also welcomes Coach Smith in his expanded role as head coach of the men's and women's soccer teams, confident in his ability to lead the student-athletes toward continued success.
