MCC Golf Finishes Runner-Up at Lou Hart Invitational; Duckworth Claims Medalist Honors
MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College Golf Team, currently ranked #7 in the NJCAA standings, hosted the prestigious Lou Hart Invitational at Northwood Country Club on March 24-25. The two-day tournament featured some of the top teams in the country, with MCC turning in a strong performance to finish second overall.
Round one teed off Monday afternoon, with MCC's lineup featuring freshmen Ayers Mathis and Jace Duckworth alongside sophomores Bruce McClung, Maddox Atkinson, and Collin Russell. The Eagles posted a team score of +11 after the opening round, placing them in second position heading into day two. Duckworth led the charge with an impressive 1-under-par round, tying for the individual lead.
Tuesday's final round began at 9 a.m. as the Eagles looked to build on their solid start. MCC maintained their strong position, finishing the tournament second overall with a two-day team total of +18. Top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast claimed the team title with a +1 finish.
Duckworth delivered a standout performance, capturing individual medalist honors with a tournament-best 5-under-par total. McClung also finished in the top 10 at 6-over, while Russell placed 11th individually at 7-over.
The Eagles now turn their attention to the MACCC Conference Championship, set for April 6 at Shiloh Ridge Athletic Center in Corinth, Mississippi.
