MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Meridian Community College softball team continued its strong early-season push Thursday, sweeping Moberly Area Community College in a doubleheader at Tommy McDonald Field. The Eagles (11-5) claimed a 3-1 victory in game one before run-ruling the Greyhounds 8-0 in five innings in game two.
Game One – White Deals in Complete-Game Win
Meridian did all of its scoring in the second inning of the opener. Allie Loftin got things started with an RBI double before Presley Black followed with a two-run single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Moberly managed to plate a run in the fourth, but that was all they could muster against Isabella White, who delivered a dominant performance in the circle. White pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out four to secure the 3-1 win.
The Eagles totaled seven hits in the contest and played clean defense behind White to lock down the victory.
Game Two – Eagles Explode Early
Meridian's offense came alive in game two, plating eight runs on seven hits in the five-inning run-rule win.
Once again, the Eagles used a big second inning to take control, scoring four runs before adding two more in both the third and fourth innings.
Montgomery Boleware and Delaney Perry each recorded two RBIs in the contest. Perry and Alex Layfield both tripled, while Boleware, Mollie Mitchell, and Aubree Jones added doubles to fuel the offensive surge.
In the circle, Hannah Capello tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out one to close out the sweep.
Head Coach Brad Grinstead praised his team's effort throughout the doubleheader.
"It was great to see our poise and focus all day," Grinstead said. "We had some freshmen step up in big moments and deliver for us. That's what you want to see as the season progresses."
Meridian will have little time to rest, as the Eagles host 16th-ranked Parkland College on Friday before welcoming 10th-ranked Kirkwood on Saturday for two more doubleheaders at Tommy McDonald Field. Friday's first pitch is set for noon and can be viewed live at mcceagles.live/green.
