MERIDIAN, MS - The Lady Eagles' comeback bid fell just short in a tightly contested matchup against Mississippi Delta, resulting in their first conference loss of the season, 71-68.
The Lady Eagles (10-8, 2-1 MACCC) struggled early, falling behind the Lady Trojans (12-1, 2-1 MACCC) 23-6 in the first quarter. However, MCC found their rhythm in the second quarter, closing the gap to a nine-point deficit at halftime, trailing MDCC 36-27.
Meridian's momentum continued in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to just seven points. With 1:42 left in the fourth quarter, Halei Keyes tied the game at 65, igniting the crowd and setting up an exciting finish. Despite having a final opportunity to secure the win, the Lady Eagles came up just short as MDCC sealed the victory 71-68.
Nataysia Willis led MCC with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Raven Jones and Terica Smith contributed 12 points each in the effort.
