Lady Eagles Cruise Past Delgado to Stay Perfect at 3–0
MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College women's basketball team continued its red-hot start to the 2025–26 season Friday night, dominating Delgado Community College 95–50 inside Graham Gymnasium to improve to 3–0.
In front of a lively home crowd, the Lady Eagles trailed briefly at 3–2 before taking complete control of the game. Meridian opened with a fast-paced offensive surge, leading 24–11 after the first quarter. The momentum only grew from there, as the Lady Eagles started the second quarter on a 13–2 run and carried a commanding 51–19 lead into halftime.
Fans were treated to a halftime performance by the MCC Dance Team, while Head Coach Jocelyn McGilberry utilized the opportunity to give her bench valuable minutes in the second half. The energy never dipped, as Meridian maintained its pace and defensive intensity, leading 68–40 after three quarters and ultimately closing out the Lady Dolphins 95–50.
Sophomore Terica Smith led the scoring effort with 21 points, while freshmen Marcionna Young and Shaquavious Jackson added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Coach McGilberry was pleased with her team's focus and execution from start to finish.
"I'm proud of how we stayed aggressive all night," McGilberry said. "We never let off the gas, and it was great to get our bench involved and give everyone early-season experience."
With the victory, Meridian improves to 3–0 and will now turn its attention to a familiar foe — the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs. The non-conference matchup is set for Monday at 5:30 p.m. inside Dantzler Arena in Perkinston, Miss.
