Bio

Wade Heggie is entering his third season as head coach of the Meridian Community College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams. A longtime leader in Mississippi’s swimming community, Heggie made history by starting the first-ever community college swim program in the state.

An MCC alumnus, Heggie began his swimming journey with the Meridian Swimming Association at the age of 9, competing for nine years and earning multiple state championships in breaststroke events. He began coaching in 1991 as a part-time assistant while still in high school, continuing to coach during college breaks before becoming a full-time assistant and eventually being named head coach of MSA in 2004.

As a club coach, his swimmers have gone on to compete at all collegiate levels and have included state champions and state record holders. At MCC, Heggie has coached CSCAA All-Americans (2), CSCAA Scholastic All-Americans (3), a CSCAA Scholastic Team All-American, an NJCAA Scholastic Second Team All-American, and an NJCAA Scholastic Team All-American.

In addition to his coaching duties, Heggie serves as the Fitness Center Director at Meridian Community College. He earned his associate degree from MCC, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University, and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Heggie is an active leader in the swimming community, serving on Mississippi Swimming’s Board of Directors in multiple roles, including Safety Chair, General Chair (4 years), and Administrative Vice Chair (4 years). He currently serves as the Club Development Chair for MS Swimming and is a national committee member for USA Swimming’s Operational Risk and LSC Development Committees.

In 2017, Heggie was honored with the USA Swimming Outstanding Service Award for his contributions to the sport in Mississippi.

He and his wife, Erica, reside in Meridian and have two children, Megan and Matthew.
