Lady Eagles Dominate Northwest, Improve to 6-2 in MACCC Play
MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Monday night, throttling Northwest 66-36 inside Graham Gymnasium to improve to 18-4 overall and 6-2 in MACCC play.
Meridian briefly trailed 3-0 to open the contest but quickly seized control and never looked back. The Lady Eagles closed the first quarter on a dominant stretch to take a 19-7 lead and continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, carrying a 35-18 advantage into the locker room.
The defensive effort set the tone all night. Meridian held the Lady Rangers to just seven points in the first quarter, 11 in the second, 10 in the third, and eight in the fourth, never allowing Northwest to find any offensive rhythm.
The second half mirrored the first, as the Lady Eagles steadily built their lead. Meridian pushed the margin to 48-28 by the end of the third quarter before closing out the game with a 30-point victory, 66-36, in front of the home crowd.
Nataysia Willis led the Lady Eagles with 17 points, while Mia Washington recorded a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Terica Smith added 13 points to round out Meridian's balanced scoring attack.
Head Coach Jocelyn McGilberry praised her team's defensive intensity and focus throughout the contest and was pleased to give key bench players valuable conference minutes as the regular season continues to wind down.
With the win, Meridian continues to strengthen its position in MACCC play and will look to carry that momentum on the road Thursday when the Lady Eagles travel to Wesson for a conference matchup against Co-Lin.
